Growth capital to speed up European roll out
Amsterdam, 22 September 2016 – Dutch venture capital fund Peak Capital and angel investor Roelof Borggreve invest EUR 850,000 in the fast growing start up OneFit. In 2015 OneFit introduced the Unlimited membership for health & fitness in Amsterdam. With this monthly subscription members get unlimited access to participating gyms and studios. Since then, OneFit has expanded to 4 Dutch cities with over 250 participating gyms and studios. Ever since the introduction, over 200,000 workouts have been booked. After the recent takeover of Kurspass, OneFit is also active in Germany. With the additional capital and the hands on support of Peak Capital, OneFit wants to achieve faster growth by opening in more European cities.
OneFit offers an online reservation platform where thousands of classes can be booked in advance. Members can also check in using the OneFit app or membercard at gyms and other sport locations for free weights training, cardio fitness or a drop-in class. This is the first time that fitness, yoga, boot camp, (kick)boxing, crossfit, dance, swimming, squash, pilates, running and many other sports have been united in one online subscription.
“These days it’s easier to book a plane ticket to Tokyo than a kickboxing class in your own city. With the help of technology we bring supply and demand together. Gym-goers discover new and fun workouts and studio- owners get to welcome new customers”, says Serge Brabander of OneFit. Aside from the online ease of OneFit, the subscription can be paused or cancelled monthly, same as with the streaming services of Netflix and Spotify.
The possibility to workout together by sending ‘workout invites’ and sharing your sports agenda is popular among OneFitters. “OneFit offers easy access to many different workouts, lessons and locations, which makes it a good way to get some variety in your activities. With the flexible subscription model we see a lot of possibilities to expand this service throughout Europe”, says Johan van Mil of Peak Capital.
OneFit is available in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht. After the takeover of the German Kurspass in April 2016, OneFit also became active in Cologne. With the support of Peak Capital, OneFit wants to expand and open up in more European cities. “Peak Capital’s track record was crucial for us. There was a positive vibe from the start, and Peak Capital operated constructively. We are convinced that their expertise and network will bring us a lot of good things”, say Serge Brabander and Camille Richardson as founders of OneFit.
OneFit was founded by Serge Brabander (former director of Boomerang Media) and Camille Richardson (former professional basketball player) and is located in Amsterdam. OneFit’s mission is to make sports more fun and easy, so that more people will become active. The OneFit app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. More information: www.onefit.nl.
